Attendance

INFORMATION

Regular and punctual attendance is very important at all grade levels. When your child is absent due to a medical reason, family business, trips or other reasons, please call the school office at (925) 335-5830, email the Office Manager, or send a note with your child upon his/her return to school. Please provide the following information: student name, reason for absence(s), date of absence(s), and relationship to the student.

Students receive an excused absence from school for the following reasons: Death in the immediate family; exclusion from school pursuant of the Health and Safety Code; illness of the student; medical, dental, optometry or chiropractic services for the student, quarantine under the direction of a county or city health officer; an appearance in court; and observance of a holiday or ceremony of his/her religion or attendance at religious retreats.

Parents may contact the classroom teacher to make arrangements for an Independent Study Agreement when it is anticipated that your child will be absent from school three or more school days due to a family or business trip.

A student is tardy if he/she is not with the class when the teacher and class enter the room at the beginning of the school day. If your child is tardy, he/she must check into the office for a tardy slip before reporting to class. Tardiness not only causes your child to miss instructions, but also disrupts the rest of the class. Your efforts to get your child to school on time will be greatly appreciated. Excessive absences or tardies will result in a referral to the Martinez Unified School District Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) or other child welfare agencies.
